"The Lake District for Holidays" - Railway Poster

Posters of many kinds are often used to give some colour to otherwise lifeless empty wall spaces both at home and at the office. Here is just one extract from this site showing wall decor posters of different kinds: England on Great Posters. Both heritage posters and newer ones can resurrect memories of great places we toured during childhood, illustrate for us places we plan to travel to at some time in the future - or with heritage posters, for example heritage railway posters, recall a little of what the world was like in decades, or even centuries past.

On my "old posters" site I am currently focusing on old railway posters promoting rail travel to many different parts of England. Steam trains are things of the past in England other than for special excursions and some tourist attractions, but they can be brought back to mind by railway posters from past times. When England's traditional coastal resorts were at the peak of their prosperity they frequently featured on travel posters. This was before the advent of economy flights to Spain, Portugal and elsewhere. A great deal of imagination and artistry went into selling both coastal and inland holiday places.
